Latest Updates from Our Project:

HaloVino™ has arrived (or will VERY soon!)
almost 10 years ago – Tue, May 31, 2016 at 09:46:31 PM

All 12,000+ HaloVino™ glasses ordered through Kickstarter have either arrived or are in transit.

Some even arrived in time for Memorial Day! I loved seeing all the pictures of HaloVino™ in use this weekend on social media for wine, beer, cocktails, and yes, scotch!!!

I spent it with family, including my 94 year old Papa, a WWII vet who made me realize how lucky we are (and that Scotch, his favorite, also works just fine in HaloVino)

With the shipping of remaining international orders today and tomorrow, all backers should receive HaloVino™ glasses by the end of the week. IF YOU DO NOT, PLEASE LET ME KNOW, AND WE WILL TRACK IT DOWN.

All that remains for the Kickstarter campaign are the DIY Wine School Packets and Personalized Wine Consultations. They will be electronically delivered to those at the $49 and $99 backer levels, respectively, by June 15.

I truly hope your Kickstarter experience backing HaloVino™ was a positive one, and I hope you choose to continue down the path with us by staying updated on social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest)

Don't forget, we need your feedback! We have already gotten amazingly positive feedback, and some suggestions for minor changes (THANK YOU!). Your honest feedback will help shape, quite literally, the future of HaloVino™ (and score you a free glow in the dark HaloCord!)

And we are officially open for business with our newly built online store. Please visit for refills, the perfect summer gifts, and share with all your friends.

Play Ball! and Updated Delivery Dates
almost 10 years ago – Wed, May 11, 2016 at 06:26:21 PM

At the writing of our last update, we were in full production mode, producing about 500-1000 glasses per day. After manufacturing about 4,000 glasses, the machine started to experience problems, and we had to temporarily shut it down for some maintenance.

The good news is that neither the mold nor the material we chose are the source of the problem. The machine’s tune up should be completed by the end of the week, and we should be able to return to manufacturing. We are working with a team of professionals at EMP of Franklin who are responsible, responsive and diligent. I am confident we are in good hands to help us navigate the inevitable obstacles that have and will continue to arise.

We have not sent out any glasses for Kickstarter backers yet because we had committed our first order to Miller Stadium in Milwaukee. Before we launched the Kickstarter campaign in October 2015, the head of concessions for Miller Park committed to carry HaloVino in 2016. It was quite the pledge of support! As such, Miller Park received the first round of glasses yesterday, and HaloVino will go into action at the Brewers home game in all the premium areas on Thursday, May 12.

I will continue to be transparent as we move forward. I still anticipate a delivery of the glasses to you by end of May, hopefully in time for Memorial Day, because who doesn’t like to drink wine outside for the first BBQ of the year!?!

Should that change for any reason, I will be sure to alert you of the change and the reason. Very little stands in the way of you and HaloVino sharing a glass of wine… and if you can’t wait another week or two, go to a home Brewers game, order some wine… and tell them how much you LOVE HaloVino ;)

Thank you for your continued support and patience! We are so close!!!

As always, if you got this far, push the "like" button so I know you got all the info.

Cheers,

Get Ready... Get Set... SHIP!!!
almost 10 years ago – Tue, Apr 19, 2016 at 09:31:08 PM

Finalize your shipping address!

This is it! I can’t believe it… We’re finally getting ready to ship HaloVino glasses!

We will lock down shipping addresses in 48 hours. That means you have two days to update your shipping address (i.e., it has changed in the last 6-9 months) in your BackerKit survey.

If you need to recover your survey to change your shipping address, go to halovino.backerkit.com and enter your email address to have your survey sent to you again.

The mold arrived in Wisconsin from China last week. EMP of Franklin, WI, has been doing some test runs and making final adjustments over the past week. The glasses work, feel, and look as good as Grand Cru Champagne on a hot summer day!

Today I received this text and picture from EMP's director of operations, Brian Summerkamp.

"Bags showed up. Very cool."

I had to agree. Hope you like them!

We are aiming to ship HaloVino glasses to you by the end of the month, for an early May arrival.

Thank you for your patience and support!!!

If you need to change your shipping address PLEASE make the changes in your BackerKit survey in the next two days.

Thank you and Cheers!

Tooling is Finished and Updated Timeline
about 10 years ago – Wed, Mar 02, 2016 at 07:56:50 PM

Celebrate with us TONIGHT!

First, thank you to everyone who has tuned into the live, interactive online wine classes over the last six weeks! Our last one, Common Wine FAQs, is tonight at 6:30 PM CST. (i.e. sulfites, aging wine, value wines, vintage importance, wine faults, YOUR questions, etc.)

This “end of term” class will have less structure than the last 5 classes, and doesn’t require any wine (although we recommend you open a bottle, even if just to celebrate Wednesday!). We have so much to celebrate... So flip on your laptop at 6:30 PM CST, grab a glass of wine and join us for some fun and wine! Just press play at start time.

For the last six weeks, I have been sharing weekly updates on HaloVino’s progress at the beginning of each class. However, this week I wanted to update everyone on a HUGE milestone, and an updated timeline for delivery of HaloVino glasses. ..

THE MOLD IS FINISHED!

The molding of the tool went VERY well in China. In fact, we had to make NO structural changes to our orginal design. The seal was perfect! You can fill the glass to the top (12 oz) making it perfect for cocktails and craft beers, in addition to wine. YAY!

There were some issues with the mold itself, which was out of our control and delayed the process. Over the past two months, we have received three different rounds of samples from our mold. Each time, I did heaps of “field research” by drinking wine at the basketball game, the ballet, in Miami, you name it... and HaloVino works and feels fabulous! (to see where I take HaloVino, follow me on instagram, Twitter, or Facebook), but there were minor aesthetic changes (i.e. scratches from the mold surface) that we had to change to achieve the most perfect shatterproof wine glass.

The tooling process ran into the Chinese New Year, which delayed us another two weeks, but, as I write this, the one ton mold is being prepped to hit the water for the US by the end of the week.

HaloVino glasses to arrive for summer drinking

Transit time from China to the Midwest is 4 weeks (early April). We will then experiment with a couple polymers to find the perfect one for HaloVino. This mandatory exploratory process should take a couple weeks. We should be ready to manufacture HaloVino glasses at the end of April. With packaging and delivery, you can expect to be drinking wine (or beer or cocktails) from HaloVino glasses by the end of May, just in time for outdoor drinking season.

Inventing and bringing a new product to market is riddled with obstacles, but I believe we have hurdled the biggest ones. We fully anticipate adhering to this revised timeline, however, should anything prevent us from doing so, we will alert you immediately with the reason and an updated timeline.

Also, please feel free to check in with me at anytime for updates. I’ll send another update once we have chosen a polymer, and are ready to manufacture.

If you’ve gotten this far, please like this update so I know you saw it.

Finally, I will be in South America for the first two weeks of March, leading a group around wine country, shooting a PBS special on Chilean food & wine, and exploring the market for HaloVino. I won’t have much access to email (or much time) so please forgive me if I don’t get back to you right away.

For updates on the trip you can follow me on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.

Thank you for your patience, but more importantly, thank you for your support and believing in me and HaloVino!

Cheers,
